Colostrum and Asthma
What is Asthma?
Asthma is an autoimmune disease of the respiratory tract, in which breathing becomes very difficult due to swelling of the tissue of the bronchial airways. The lungs are very sensitive and prone to constriction. An asthma attack can be triggered by a range of different allergens, but most common are pollen, dust, grass, cigarette smoke, perfume, cold air, food, exercise or chemicals and pollutants. Most of people with asthma have problems which are inflammation related. The inflammation is a self defence reaction of the lungs and bronchitis against particular allergens. When the lungs and bronchitis are irritated, inflammation is started and the lungs have the tendency to stay in a very highly inflammatory state. This is the reason why steroids and steroids inhalers are prescribed by doctors, because they can block the inflammation directly inside the lungs.
Symptoms of Asthma
Swollen airways cause great breathing difficulties and it takes a huge effort to get the air through to the lungs. It creates a wheezing sound and another symptom is coughing, which is triggered by mucus which is irritating the tissue inside the airways and lungs.
How holvita™ colostrum can help people with Asthma
Colostrum has many components – one of them, Proline-Rich-Polypeptide may help to regulate the sensitivity of the lungs and it can help with suppressing the immune system over reaction to certain allergens. The asthmatic inflammation can become more manageable and the point of sensitivity to allergen lower. Colostrum also contains lactoferrin and peptides, which can also help to regulate the inflammatory factors and subsequently reduce the severity of reactions and the number of asthma attacks. Colostrum can help to build up and regulate the immune system making the person with asthma less susceptible to an allergic reaction. Immunoglobulin E (IgE) one the the main immunoglobulins, found in colostrum, has been shown to have the ability to regulate allergic response in a clinical study. (Drs Tortora, Funke & Cast)
Our holvita™ colostrum can be of great benefit to people suffering with asthma.

Both the intestinal and bronchial immunoactive cell groups respond to allergens, antigens, and pathogens by neutralizing or destroying them. In newborns, these special cell groups are not immediately operative but protection is provided by a variety of immune factors from the mother’s colostrum. Antibodies found in the colostrum protect against E.coli, Salmonella, Shigella, V. Cholera, Bacteriorides Fragilis, Streptococcus Pneumoniae, Bordtella Petussis, Clostridium diphtheria, Clostridium Tetani, Streptococcus Mutans and Candida Albicans.
