Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
About Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or spastic colon is a functional bowel disorder and is also one of most common gastrointestinal problems. It can be also called spastic colitis, mucus colitis or nervous colon syndrome. It is assessed that up to 15% of population may have IBS and it is twice as common in woman as in men.
Signs and symptoms
The symptoms occur typically early in life and manifest as an abdominal pain in association with frequent diarrhoea, constipation, or a change in bowel habits. It is assumed that IBS could be caused by abnormal contractions of the large intestine (colon). The causes are largely unknown. It is thought dietary, psychological, hormonal or genetic al factors may be the reason. Abdominal pain varies in its severity; it is usually felt in the lower abdomen. Depression, anxiety and stress are also commonly associated with IBS.
How holvita™ colostrum can help with IBS?
Colostrum can help with IBS syndrome because of its ability to improve intestinal flora health and its positive effect on the inflamed intestinal lining.
Colostrum's immunoglobulins, growth factors and lactoferrin have a positive anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect on the whole digestive system and subsequently on its healthy function. Lactoferrin in colostrum helps to promote the growth of important bacteria that are present in our digestive tract which are important for digestion.
Growth factors found in colostrum promote cell proliferation and regeneration. Insulin-like growth factor-I (IgF-1) is especially important for bowel repair, damage to the gut can reduce nutrients uptake efficiency if left unchecked. (Dr Edmund Burke, Prof of Biology University of Colorado, Colorado Spring, Natures gift to the immune system p 64)
Kenneth D Johnson states “I have found that the IgF-1 and other factors in colostrum have helped”seal” the gut from ulceration in a number of patients. Included in an immuno-enhancement protocol, colostrum may be the key to pathogen removal and intestinal healing” (Beth M. Ley)
Dr Kenneth D Johnson reported success with a number of patients with irritable bowel using colostrum. Studies suggest that anti-inflammatory therapy may be beneficial for individuals with irritable bowel syndrome. (Beth M. Ley)
Our holvita colostrum can be beneficial to all people with gastro-intestinal problems.
