Colostrum and Cryptosporidium
What is Cryptosporidium
Cryptosporidium is an opportunistic protozoan parasite causing a diarrhoeal illness called cryptosporidiosis. It is a short-term infection but it can become severe and difficult to treat in children or in individuals with weakened immune system. It is transmitted by environmentally hardy cysts and once ingested cause an infection of intestinal tissue. It is transmitted on unwashed hands after using the bathroom. Prevention is through washing hands carefully after using the bathroom and especially before eating.
Symptoms
Symptoms appear between two and ten days after infection and can last up to two weeks. Typical symptoms are watery diarrhoea, stomach pains and cramps, low fever and weight loss.. Severe disease, such as pancreatitis, can occur. Even when symptoms subside, the infected individual is infectious for some weeks.
How colostrum can help with parasitic infections
Colostrum contains the range of antibodies (immunoglobulins) which are effective against a range of bacterial, viral and protozoal pathogens and against various bacterial toxins. It has been shown to be effective against crypto-sporidium infection. People who received bovine immunoglobulins showed significant improvement without any side effects. Bovine colostrum can offer help to people with severe diarrhoea caused by crypto-sporidium infection.
Study showed that:
"Antibodies from Colostrum in Oral Immunotherapy": Spray dried concentration of immunoglobin preparation for oral use from pooled source of 100 cows was found to be highly effective in treatment of severe diarrhea e.g. in AlDS patients. After treatment no cryptosporidia were found in stools where it had been previously detected.

Our holvita colostrum liquid which is more potent than powder may help people with severe diarrhoea caused by bacterial infection.
