Suffering from dry skin
Dry skin Is a condition that involves the skin, hair and nails. In most cases it be can safely treated with emollients and/or moisturisers. Dry skin mainly occurs on the lower legs, arms, the sides of the abdomen and thighs. Symptoms most associated with dry skin are scaling (the visible peeling of the outer skin layer), itching and cracks in the skin, which then becomes prone to infection.
Dry skin is a very common condition strongly affected by a low moisture content in the air. The skin loses moisture in dry conditions which may lead it to crack and peel. Aggressive soaps/shower lotions and too frequent bathing can also cause skin dryness. Dry skin can also be the result of a vitamin A deficiency, systematic illness and an over exposure to strong sunlight and medication.
Allergic skin reactions
Allergic reactions are caused by an over reaction of the immune system to allergens (food, chemicals, pollen, fur, etc.) As a result the skin generally becomes red, flaky and very itchy, making it susceptible to bacterial attacks.
Atopic eczema often occurs with hay fever, asthma and conjunctivitis, and other "hidden" factors, such as stress or fatigue. Dermatitis (atopic eczema, AE) is often confused with Psoriasis and it effects all age groups. There is no known cure for AE but it can be controlled by avoiding triggers of the allergic reactions using a number of different therapies, a change in diet and lifestyle and an improved environment.
Psoriasis is a skin condition caused by an over active immune system attacking the body, causing the appearance of inflamed scaly red patches. It affects the scalp, elbows, knees, navel, palms, ears and groin. The cause of psoriasis is unknown but some lifestyle factors are believed to cause aggravation such as stress, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking. There are many treatments available, but because of its chronic recurrent nature, psoriasis is a challenge to treat.
Hives is a skin condition caused by an allergic reaction. Typical symptoms are raised red skin velts, known as nettle rash. Hives can appear anywhere on the body and face, lips, tongue, ears and the throat. Hives is caused by a direct contact with an allergenic substance, or is an immune response to food or some other allergen, but can also appear for other reasons, notably emotional stress.

How holvita™ colostrum can help with skin conditions and allergies
Colostrum contains antiviral and antibiotic factors, which can make colostrum an excellent treatment for various wounds and infections (acne) etc. Anti-inflammatory properties and immune regulatory factors such as Proline-Rich-Polypeptides (PRP) can be very beneficial for people suffering from conditions such as hives and eczema (Immune System control: Colostrum and lactoferrin. P 170)
PRPs is an powerful immune system regulator, which can calm down an over reactive immune system as with allergies. Colostrum can have internal and external benefits. Epithelial growth factors (EgF) can help to speed up the healing process, while anti-inflammatory factors, such as lactoferrin, can help reduce swelling. Topical applications using liquid colostrum or a paste made up from powder can be highly beneficial for skin problems.
Our holvita™ dermatological cream contains a high percentage of colostrum which has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties and which can help to soothe and calm the affected area. For the treatment of a problematic skin we recommend using both holvita™ colostrum extract, which is rich in growth factors, as well as holvita™ dermatological cream for topical application.
